In 2002 we ran away from Illinois where we were born and raised, and started a new life in SW Florida. This blog is about me (an eccentric old artist), ROM (my Real Old Man), Isabella (our neurotic Standard Poodle) and Emmy (our crazy snake killing Jack Russell Terrier). Oh- and the neighborhood old people. Life is good in Florida!

Ready for Christmas or end of the world- whichever comes first...

I wasn't sure whether to put the effort into decorating for this holiday season in case the doomsayers are right and the world is ending on the 21st. Then I figured what the hell- if the end is coming we'll go out in a blaze of colorful lights.

The first sign of Christmas was on Thanksgiving day when I discovered tiny flower buds forming on my Xmas cacti-

And a couple days ago the first white bloom opened...

And the gold plant soon followed...

And not to be outdone, the red plants began to open up, too...

Of course it wouldn't be Christmas without ROM's light show...

All that's left to do is bake goodies for Walter and Bertha.

    1. Awww.. IMAJH2, thank you so much for such kind words. Means the world to me when someone takes the time from their day to read my blog and comment. I have health issues that made me retire early, and there are many things I loved that I can no longer do. After my health problems started I went into a depression. Finally my depression turned into boredom which motivated me to find new things to fill my time. Three of those things were Photography, blogging, and sculpting. I'm so glad I can play small part in giving you laughs. Lord knows we all need laughs and a sense of humor to deal with life. I hope you and your loved ones have an amazing holiday season and a new year of blessings, love, lots of laughter and new adventures. xoxo

  2. I'm also a lurker and have never left a comment on a blog before. I had to today because like Jillhater I love this blog and this old lady so much. It makes my day when ROH writes a new blog or just posts pictures. I wish my mother was more like ROH. She has everything material wise, wants for nothing and is adored by my father but she has none of the joy and spunk like our ROH has. I've promised my husband that I will not be like my mother when I get old because I've decided I'm going to be like ROH. ROH, I hope you, ROM, Isabella and Emmy have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year. My only wish is that you blogged every day.

    1. Anonymous- Thank you for saying such sweet things. You'll do fine when you reach old age because you already know material things aren't the answer. Have a wonderful holiday and happiest New Year

  3. ROH we need one of your funny crazy stories. I can't get the thought out of my mind of those babies being gunned down in Newtown.
    Love you sweet lady,

    1. Hey Bev- I'm really struggling with the Newtown killings and haven't been able to think of anything funny in past few days. I'm feeling such over whelming sadness.

    1. Yes, Baca, ROM made the potting bench quite festive. I think if I stood out side very long, ROM would hang lights on me-LOL
The Christmas cacti are just now coming into full bloom. I hope this sudden cold spell doesn't make them drop their blooms. You have a wonderful Christmas, sweet Baca xoxo
